When I was young, My father owned an amazing, well established and profitable auto repair facility. He was a tradesman at heart and knew the process better than anyone in the company or the city for that matter.
Running the business for 20 or more years he became burned out and exhausted. His family suffered, his marriage suffered, but mostly he suffered to the point of a stress induced health crisis.
At his breaking point he decided to call his trust advisor who assisted him in his real estate purchases and made an appointment. They met for an hour or so, the advisor looked at the building and they shook hands and listed it for 500K.
My father was very disappointed in what the business was going to sell for, but desperate for a reprieve and never sold a business before he signed the listing.
Offers came and went, staff became very weary of the process, but it finally sold!
My father was relieved but immediately after closing had to start planning to make an income from other sources. What he sold his business and company for would not sustain him much less afford him to retire.

HE left Almost $1,000,000 Dollars on the table, because he didn't know the right steps to take to make his company sell for the most money.
